Valve selection by application

The working conditions decide the valve. Below is how we approach the six sectors we quote most often, and which families we normally start from.

Oil and gas
01

Oil and gas

City gate stations, pressure regulating and metering skids, gathering lines and pipeline isolation. Ball valves carry the main shut-off duty, backed by gate valves for full-bore isolation and check valves at pump and compressor discharge.

  • Ball and gate valves in Class 150 to 900 for pipeline isolation
  • Metal-seated trim for higher temperature and abrasive service
  • Anti-static ball and stem, with fire-safe seating options
  • Pneumatic and electric actuation for remote operation
  • Higher-grade material options for sour service on request

Water treatment and supply
02

Water treatment and supply

Treatment plants, pump stations, transmission mains and district distribution. Butterfly and gate valves handle the large diameters, check valves protect the pumps, and soft-seated valves give bubble-tight isolation on treated water.

  • Butterfly and gate valves from DN200 to DN1200
  • Wafer and flanged butterfly valves with EPDM or PTFE seating
  • Dual-plate and swing check valves at pump discharge
  • Internal coating to suit potable water service
  • Electric and pneumatic actuation for valve chambers

Chemical and petrochemical
03

Chemical and petrochemical

Process units, storage tank farms, heat exchangers and utility stations. Corrosive media drive the material selection, so PTFE-lined and stainless bodies are common, with metal-seated valves where temperature rules out soft seating.

  • PTFE-lined ball and butterfly valves for corrosive media
  • CF8, CF8M, CF3 and CF3M stainless steel bodies
  • Metal-seated ball and butterfly valves for high temperature
  • Gate and globe valves for isolation and bypass lines
  • Explosion-proof solenoid valves and switch boxes

HVAC and building services

HVAC and building services

Chiller plants, air handling units, risers and heat exchange stations. Butterfly valves with electric actuation are the workhorse for isolation and modulating control, with balancing and check valves completing the plant room.

  • Butterfly valves with electric or pneumatic actuation
  • Sizes matched to standard plant-room pipework
  • Lug and wafer bodies for tight plant-room layouts
  • Check valves at pump discharge
  • Supplied complete with actuator, switch box and solenoid where required

Power generation

Power generation

Boiler feedwater, condensate, cooling water and steam distribution. Globe valves regulate the feedwater and steam flows, gate valves isolate the mains, and chrome-molybdenum and alloy-steel bodies cover the higher temperatures.

  • Globe valves for feedwater and steam regulation
  • Gate valves in chrome-molybdenum and alloy steels
  • Metal-seated ball and butterfly valves for high temperature
  • Check valves for boiler feed and pump discharge
  • Electric actuation for remote and automated operation

Long-distance pipeline and energy transmission

Long-distance pipeline and energy transmission

Trunk lines, pump and compressor stations, metering skids and district distribution. Full-bore isolation, pigging and metering duty, with valves matched to the pipeline class and the operating pressure of each station.

  • Ball and gate valves in Class 150 to 900 for line isolation
  • Full-bore and trunnion-mounted bodies for pigging duty
  • Check valves at pump and compressor stations
  • Metering and regulating skids with actuated ball valves
  • Mixed batches and small trial orders accepted
